The
Expressway passes through the filled ground
in Kyongseo-dong, Inchon, so that the ground
had to be removed. Because other filled-up
grounds to take excavated waste was not available,
it was decided to move them to the north of
the existing ground. However, the bad smell
or poisonous gas coming out during the excavation
might cause environmental disaster and residents'
complaint.
The stabilization method was needed to prevent
the bad odor. After reviewing alternative
methods, the Smell-Well method developed by
IUT was selected. The lance which act as the
impregnation well and the suction well was
installed on the filled ground. The space
between the lance was 5 to 6M. The fresh air
filtered using bio-filters and aerobic bacteria
were circulated through the lances and removed
the bad odor and poisonous gas. The method
was successfully applied and there was no
complaints of the odor.
