The
conventional anti-corrosion system for the
main cables is composed of red lead paste,
wrapping using the round wires, and painting
over the wrapping. However, survey in existing
suspe-nsion bridges on the world show-ed that
the cables protected by the conventional system
were corrod-ed. In some cases, the main cabl-es
are being replaced.
In the Yong-jong Grand Bridge, the new protec-
tion system, a dehumidifica-tion system, was
applied. The corrosi-on of the main cables
was prevent-ed by flowing dehumidified air
inside the cables. The relative humidity inside
the cables is kept below 40%. To improve the
air and water tightness of the cable, S-shaped
wrapping wires were used.
